Getting awakened in the middle of the night and a grab and go in the dark the safety location most natural to you makes it one less thing to think about. The FN's have safety in front of the trigger as do the winchesters which are basically the same since fn owns winchester as I'm sure you already know.Īgain it boils down to which safety position you like.
I put a tube extension on it and cut the barrel down and it was like a cop gun but nicer wood and blued. The mossy to me has a more awkward safety, but people are different. The 870 was my bedside gun because I put a mushroom safety in and I could easily click off the safety just by putting my finger on the trigger. What's more important though is which safety you like best. No comparison, on the remington nothing rattled and on the mossy everything was loose. I also had a mossy 500 for many years that I picked up in the mid 80's. Wingmasters and police are made the same unless you have a ribbed barrel wingmaster of course. Remington 870, Mossberg 500/590, or FN P-12 for home defense I’m looking into getting an 18.5 inch barrel shotgun for a home defense gun and I’ve come down to the Remington 870, Mossberg 500/590, and the FN P-12 for my final options.
